Horticulture is the branch of agriculture concerned with intensively cultured plants directly used by man for food, for medicinal purposes, or for esthetic gratification. Horticulture is the science and art involved in the cultivation, propagation, processing and marketing of ornamental plants, flowers, turf, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. It is unique among plant sciences because it not only involves science and technology, but it also incorporates art and principles of design. The department of horticulture in JKKMCAS has been teaching the scientific methodologies and techniques of the cultivation, marketing and value addition of variety of horticultural crops.

Horticulture

Horticulture is a science, as well as, an art of production, utilization and improvement of horticultural crops, such as fruits and vegetables, spices and condiments, flowers, ornamental, plantation, medicinal and aromatic plants. Horticulture has gained importance in the recent years as a important component in agriculture in India. The new impetus is given to the horticultural crops mainly for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables which constitute an important segment of Indian Dietary System (IDS).

Forestry

Educating forestry has a key importance in present day agriculture. Incorporating forest trees in agricultural fields are reported to support the agriculturist in a myriad of ways to promote sustainable agriculture. It plays a remarkable role in stabilizing the soils and climate, regulation of water flow, providing a habitat for pollinators and natural predators of agricultural pests. Agroforestry plays a vital role in protective environmental functions through controlling soil erosion, restoration of soil fertility and promotion of soil biodiversity.
